Let's Get Started

The supplies!
I first went and found fun containers for lunches. It will help separate foods cutting down on time unwrapping and cleaning up in the lunch room.

Today I had lunch with Brandon to see how the lunch room goes. Yes, they do have 30min. for lunch. The time frame includes lining up, getting to and from the cafeteria, as well as unpacking and cleaning up.

Elliauna, my first grader told me "it's like we only have 10 min. to eat." After spending time in the lunch room her statement was nearly true. Kids eat slow, and they are distracted by everyone sitting around them.

I witnessed, during clean up time, kids dumping majority of their uneaten food. Both school lunch and packed lunch. Two children had whole apples and spent most of their lunch time focused on that one item and throwing out their sandwich.

The school doesn't have time to monitor our children's eating, so how can we monitor how much of those calories and dollars are being thrown out daily?

Using reusable containers helps us monitor what is actually being consumed, as well as regulate portions so our children are getting square meals.

When it comes to the food itself, it's about getting creative and resourceful.

Let's have fun with this, and Let's Have Lunch CF!
